Nostalgia, 2020

T. Phillips

Acrylic, pumice and gloss gel on canvas

I feel nostalgic when I hear the word “home”, because I live across the world from the house I was born in and lived in for almost my entire life.

I wanted to convey the bittersweet feeling of missing the home where I made happy memories throughout my childhood. Remembering old memories gives me a calming, dream-like feeling.

The light blue of the gloss gel and the navy blue of the background were inspired by the colours of the ocean wave. The wavy, natural patterns and movement shown in my artwork are also inspired by the ocean, because oceans separate me from my home.

This artwork visualizes what nostalgia would look like for me.
